EDITORS COMMENTS
This vintage poster, titled "Bridlington: Its Quicker by Rail" takes us back to the year 1935 when rail travel was at its peak. Produced for the London & North Eastern Railway (LNER), this artwork aimed to entice travelers to visit the charming coastal town of Bridlington in North Yorkshire. The poster showcases a bustling scene where a crowd leisurely strolls along the waterfront, their eyes fixed on the boats gracefully gliding across the water. In the background, one can catch a glimpse of Bridlington's picturesque town with its inviting charm and character. Renowned artist Frank Newbould, an alumnus of Bradford College of Art and later associated with the War Office during World War II, skillfully designed this piece. His artistic talent extended beyond LNER as he also created posters for Great Western Railway (GWR), Orient Line, and Belgian Railways. Measuring 1016 mm x 1270 mm, this print captures not only a moment frozen in time but also evokes nostalgia for an era when rail travel was considered luxurious and exciting. Preserved by NRM/Pictorial Collection from National Railway Museum, this poster serves as a testament to both British railway history and Newbould's remarkable contribution to advertising art during that period.
