While carrying out a patorol in the Western Mediterranean a Sunderland flying boat of Coastal Command surpised an Italian Submarine on the surface. The Sunderland attacked with bombs. When the Sunderland left the spot, the submarine had received damage to the outer casing which appeared to be bent back near the bows.
