Framed Print of Fifteen men and women went to mow in Leamington last night
Fifteen men and women went to mow in Leamington last night. They were members of Save Leamington Action Movement (SLAM) and were protesting at the Borough Councils poor maintenance of The Dell. The former rose garden in Warwick Road was turned over to local children as a play area about 18 months ago. It lies on the route of the councils proposed north-south road and SLAM members claim it is being left uncared for because of that proposal. News of the demonstration leaked out and council grass cutters got to The Dell before the protesters. A local headmaster, Mr. Peter Hastings, who is chairman of SLAM decided to go ahead with the mow-in. The grass had not been cut properly and there was more work to be done at The Dell, he said. SLAM, which is dedicated to saving the beautiful old houses and trees of Leamington and improving the environment and amenities, was formed last month at a public meeting, called by the playwright David Turner, and a businessman, Mr. Christopher Clayton-Wright, who is a former member of the county council.
