EDITORS COMMENTS
This print captures the legendary Steve Marriott, a singer, songwriter, and member of the iconic 1960s band The Small Faces and the supergroup Humble Pie in the 1970s. Taken in November 1989 by David New, it showcases Marriott's undeniable talent and magnetic stage presence. Steve Marriott was not only an influential mod icon but also left an indelible mark on the music industry. His unique sound and charismatic performances influenced countless artists who followed him, from Paul Weller to The Sex Pistols. Tragically, Marriott's life was cut short on 20th April 1991 when a fire engulfed his historic home in Arkesden, Essex. It is believed that a cigarette caused this devastating incident. Despite his untimely demise, his contributions to British music were recognized posthumously with an Ivor Novello Award for Outstanding Contribution to British Music in 1996. Mojo magazine even listed Steve Marriott as one of the top 100 greatest singers of all time – a testament to his immense talent and enduring legacy. In this photograph taken during the late '80s era, Steve exudes confidence with his signature spikey hair while posing with his semi-acoustic electric guitar. Dressed casually in denim dungarees, he effortlessly embodies both fashion and style. This print serves as a nostalgic reminder of Steve Marriott's remarkable career and lasting impact on popular music history.
