Emma Dolman, 13, her brother Mark, 14, Neil Pain, 15, and Steven Kaye, 14 are all beaming with joy as they pose for the camera. These dedicated teenagers work for Derrington newsagents in Halifax Road, Birchencliffe and had recently participated in a national competition organized by Mountain Biking Magazine. To secure their prizes among the lucky top twenty winners out of numerous participants nationwide, these diligent youngsters answered four questions on cycle safety. Living and delivering in the Birchencliffe and Birkby areas of town has allowed them to become familiar faces within their community. This heartwarming snapshot captures not only their achievement but also highlights the importance of promoting safe cycling practices among young individuals. It serves as a reminder that even at such a tender age, responsibility can be instilled through employment opportunities like paper delivery. The photograph transports us back to an era when shell suits were fashionable attire for teenagers. It encapsulates the spirit of determination and enthusiasm exhibited by these aspiring cyclists who have taken an important step towards ensuring their own safety while on two wheels.
