EDITORS COMMENTS
This print captures a historic reunion between two legendary mountaineers, Lord Hunt and Sherpa Tensing Norgay, at the Pen-y-Grwd Training base in Capel Curig, North Wales. The year is 1973, marking 20 years since their triumphant ascent of Mount Everest in 1953. This momentous gathering brought together other notable figures from the expedition such as Sitar Gombu, Daku Tensing, and Sherpa Gombu - a man who had conquered Everest twice. Amidst the breathtaking Welsh landscape, these brave souls reminisce about their extraordinary feat that forever etched their names into mountaineering history. However, one notable absence casts a shadow over this joyous occasion - Sir Edmund Hillary was unable to attend this long-awaited reunion. The photograph itself exudes an air of camaraderie and accomplishment. Lord Hunt stands on the left side of the frame while Sherpa Tensing Norgay proudly occupies the right. Their weathered faces bear witness to countless challenges faced during their arduous climb to conquer Earth's highest peak. Taken by Bob Rendle on May 26th, 1973, this picture serves as a timeless reminder of human resilience and determination in pursuit of greatness. It encapsulates not only an incredible mountaineering achievement but also celebrates the enduring bond forged between these courageous individuals who dared to defy nature's limits.
