Joe Campbell, of BS Teesside, presents the runner-up trophy to Danielle McKenzie

Joe Campbell, of BS Teesside, presents the runner-up trophy to Danielle McKenzie, on horseback, Diane Mitchell, left, and Emma Oxley. Danielle was accidentally left out of the big fancy dress float competition presentation at the Teesside Steel Family Gala. Wet Weather at the Kirkleatham Showground meant the arena wouldn t take all the floats as planned and only the winning float was put on show. Danielles chums in the runner up award didn t miss out as they were on the float but disappointed Danielle was left on the side lines with borrowed horse Darkie. 13th July 1992

EDITORS COMMENTS
In this print captured by Terry Reed, we witness a heartwarming moment at the Teesside Steel Family Gala in 1992. Joe Campbell, representing BS Teesside, is seen presenting the runner-up trophy to Danielle McKenzie amidst a backdrop of excitement and disappointment. The event took an unexpected turn when wet weather at the Kirkleatham Showground forced organizers to alter their plans. As a result, only the winning float was showcased while all others were left out. Unfortunately for Danielle, who found herself on horseback with borrowed horse Darkie, she missed out on being part of the big fancy dress float competition presentation. However, her disappointment did not go unnoticed as her friends Diane Mitchell and Emma Oxley proudly stood beside her on the runner-up award-winning float. The camaraderie among these schoolgirls shines through despite Danielle's exclusion from center stage. This photograph serves as a reminder of both resilience and friendship during challenging times. It captures a fleeting moment where joy mingles with disappointment but ultimately highlights the importance of supporting one another even when circumstances don't go as planned. As we delve into this snapshot from Memory Lane Prints, it transports us back to an era defined by British steel industry events and summer celebrations. The image encapsulates not just an award ceremony or equestrian display but also echoes the spirit of unity within communities that endure regardless of external factors such as weather or unforeseen circumstances.
