If you really want to get a kick out of the Twist just put those high-heeled shoes away

If you really want to get a kick out of the Twist just put those high-heeled shoes away. Thats what the three girls pictured think, anyway and they did just that when dancing at the Locarno in Glasgow, which re-opened to the public last night. Getting down to the Twist in their nylon soles are 19-year-olds Netta Whyte of Penilee; Maureen McGilvray of Hillington and Sandra Striyan of Penilee. 27th September 1962

EDITORS COMMENTS
Capturing the essence of youthful rebellion and uninhibited fun, this vibrant print takes us back to the swinging 60s when the Twist dance craze took over Glasgow's Locarno. The three spirited girls in the picture certainly know how to make a statement - by ditching their high-heeled shoes and embracing freedom on the dance floor. In an era where fashion norms were being challenged, these daring 19-year-olds, Netta Whyte, Maureen McGilvray, and Sandra Striyan, opted for comfort over convention. With nylon-soled feet gliding effortlessly across the polished surface, they embodied both style and liberation. The reopening of Locarno marked a significant moment for nightlife enthusiasts in Scotland. As music filled the air that night in September 1962, these teenagers reveled in the pulsating beats of Twist tunes while showcasing their individuality through fashionable tights and trendy attire. This snapshot encapsulates not only a specific time but also an attitude shared by countless young people during this transformative decade. It symbolizes breaking free from societal expectations and embracing self-expression through dance. Preserved by Memory Lane Prints with utmost care, this image serves as a nostalgic reminder of an era defined by its energetic spirit and evolving fashion trends. Let it transport you back to a time when twisting your way into happiness was all that mattered.
