World-class Coventry boxer Errol Christie, tipped to become middleweight champion
World-class Coventry boxer Errol Christie, tipped to become middleweight champion, is also chasing success on the fashion scene. The 22-year-old, whose parents live in Radford, Coventry, has gone into business with up-and-coming London fashion designer Mary Powell, 25, who is also a cabaret singer. " I ve always been interested in clothes, " said Errol. I ve wanted to go into the fashion business for a long time." Errol, who is putting up half of the money for the venture and dealing with the promotional side of Errol Christie Fashions, insists the sideline won t spoil his chances in the ring. " This is really more of a hobby for me, " he said. " The gear we re producing is basically casual and kind of way out, " explained Errol. The pair plan to see how the designs go on Wednesday at a South London night club fashion show, then they are going on the road starting at the Mercia Sporting Club, Lockhurst Road, Coventry, on August 26th. Our photograph shows Jocelyn Belford modelling a Mary Powell design with Errols support.
