EDITORS COMMENTS
In this photograph from the 1970s, we are transported back to a significant moment in the history of George Eliot Hospital in Nuneaton. The image captures the Matron of the hospital, Miss A. Barry, standing at the center with her assistant, Mrs. M. Jones, on her left side. Both women exude an air of determination and purpose as they give instructions to a group of nurses. The occasion for this gathering is none other than their upcoming visit to London's House of Commons where they will meet with their local Member of Parliament, Mr. Leslie Huckfield. The nurses have been diligently preparing themselves under the guidance of these two remarkable women who are seen here sharing invaluable insights on how to effectively raise important points during their meeting with Mr. Huckfield. Mrs. Jones holds a special role within this campaign as one of its organizers for "Raise the Roof" in Nuneaton – a cause that has clearly united and mobilized both staff and community members alike. As Tuesday approaches, anticipation fills the air as these dedicated nurses prepare to embark on their journey towards advocating for fair wages alongside countless others attending discussions by the Whitley Committee. This powerful snapshot not only immortalizes a pivotal moment in time but also serves as a testament to unity and resilience within healthcare professionals fighting for what they believe is right - better conditions and just compensation for their vital contributions at George Eliot Hospital.
