In advertisements in religious journals he claims that if you invest with Applegate, you ll get more for your money, leaving a handy surplus for charity. Those morning prayers for staff members are all part of the service: prayers for a good days business. One of Mr. Applegatss advertisements quoted words from a satisfied client - " one dear lady who has been kind enough to consult me, seeking ways to give the maximum to her Lord for his servants." The advertisement added: " I will gladly explain how you can increase your income - and giving - with resultant joy in your heart. Mr. Applegate, 54, who operates from an office in Torquay, Devon, said: " There are a lot of sharks in my profession, but I m not one of them.
