Framed Prints From Mary Evans

Framed Print of Dummy injured soldier used during training, WW1

A dummy injured soldier used during training at Camouflage School, Kensington Gardens, during the First World War. The Germans would dress up a dummy in captured khaki to look like a British soldier, and place it in No Mans Land. Sometimes a hand or arm would be raised by means of a cord, as if asking for assistance. The idea was to lure British soldiers out to attempt a rescue, and then shoot them. Date: 1914-1918. Mary Evans Picture Library makes available wonderful images created for people to enjoy over the centuries. © Imperial War Museum/Robert Hunt Library/Mary Evans
