EDITORS COMMENTS
Step back in time with this photograph of Trevone, a picturesque fishing village nestled near Padstow in Cornwall, England. Dating back to the late 19th century, around 1890 to 1900, this coloured image offers a nostalgic glimpse into the past. The village, with its quaint cottages and winding lanes, is surrounded by rugged cliffs and a sandy cove, making it a popular destination for visitors seeking a touch of historical charm. The photograph, which showcases the village in all its glory during this era, is a testament to the rich history of Cornwall and England as a whole. The vibrant colours and intricate details bring the scene to life, transporting us back in time to an age of simplicity and beauty. Trevone was once a thriving fishing community, and the boats and nets scattered along the shoreline serve as a reminder of its past. The village's name is believed to derive from the Cornish language, meaning 'sandy cove' or 'beach with sandy bay'. This photograph is a beautiful example of the Photochrom process, which was a popular method of producing colour prints during the late 19th and early 20th centuries. The process involved the use of multiple black and white negatives, each of which was hand-coloured by skilled artists. The result was a vivid and detailed image that captured the essence of the scene in a way that monochrome photographs could not. As we gaze upon this image, we are reminded of the importance of preserving our history and the beauty of the past. Trevone may have changed over the years, but this photograph offers a glimpse into a time when life was simpler, and the natural beauty of Cornwall was a source of inspiration and wonder.
