EDITORS COMMENTS
This photograph captures a moment from the enchanting rehearsal for the Living Poster Ball, an extraordinary fundraising event held at the Park Lane Hotel in London in 1930. The image features three elegant women, Lady Diana Cooper (center), Mrs. Baillie-Hamilton (left), and Lady Cunard (right), as they prepare for the grand spectacle. The Living Poster Ball was a unique and innovative charity event organized to raise funds for the Children's Country Holiday Fund and the Elizabeth Garrett Anderson Hospital. The women, all members of London's high society and aristocracy, served as living posters for the event, posing as the advertisements that would be displayed around the city to promote the ball. Dressed in elaborate and fantastical costumes, the women are seen rehearsing their poses and expressions, ensuring that every detail is perfect for the upcoming gala. Lady Diana Cooper, with her captivating smile and regal bearing, radiates grace and charm. Mrs. Baillie-Hamilton, with her striking red dress and dramatic pose, exudes a sense of mystery and allure. Lady Cunard, in her elegant white gown and serene expression, embodies the epitome of sophistication and poise. The Living Poster Ball was a testament to the power of creativity and community, as London's upper class came together to support important causes and put on a truly unforgettable show. This photograph offers a glimpse into a bygone era, a time when fancy dress and charity went hand in hand, and the power of a good cause could bring together the most influential and fashionable members of society.
