EDITORS COMMENTS
In this enchanting photograph, Princess Theodora of Greece and Princess of Baden (1906-69) is captured in a tender moment with her husband, Berthold, Margrave of Baden, and their eldest child, Princess Margarita Alice of Baden. The image, taken in 1932, showcases the young family's joy and happiness as they gaze at their newborn baby girl. Theodora, the elder sister of Prince Philip, Duke of Edinburgh, was born in Athens, Greece, to King Constantine I and Queen Sophia. She married Berthold, Margrave of Baden, in 1931, in a grand ceremony held in Athens. The couple moved to Germany to live in the Margraviate of Baden, where they raised their three children: Margarita, Theodora, and Philip. Princess Margarita, born on February 19, 1932, was the eldest of their children. She was named in honor of her grandmother, Grand Duchess Margarethe of Baden. The young princess would go on to marry Prince Karl-Friedrich of Hohenzollern-Sigmaringen in 1951, and they had four children together. This photograph is a precious reminder of the close bond between Princess Theodora, her husband Berthold, and their newborn baby, Margarita. It is a poignant snapshot of a moment in history, capturing the love and joy of a young royal family. The image is a testament to the enduring legacy of the Greek and German royal houses and their rich history.
