EDITORS COMMENTS
Once upon a time, in the land of suds and scrubbing, there was a man named Fred, who was in desperate need of a shave. He stepped into his local barber shop, eager to start his day fresh and clean. Little did he know, his barber had recently discovered the wonders of Plantol Soap, the latest sensation imported from the shores of England, manufactured by the esteemed Lever Brothers Limited of Port Sunlight. As Fred sat down in the barber chair, his barber, with a gleam in his eye and a twinkle in his mustache, grabbed a generous dollop of Plantol Soap and began to work it into a rich, creamy lather. Fred, taken aback by the sudden onslaught of suds, let out a surprised yelp, his eyes wide with astonishment. The barber, not one to be deterred by his customer's reaction, continued to generously apply the soap, determined to give Fred the best shave of his life. The print captures this humorous moment in time, with Fred's startled expression etched on his face, as he is enveloped in a sea of foamy bubbles. The date, December 21, 1905, is etched into the corner of the image, a testament to the history and historical significance of this moment. And so, Fred's barber continued to apply the Plantol Soap, undeterred by his customer's initial shock, confident in the knowledge that he was using the best shaving soap money could buy. And Fred, despite his initial trepidation, left the barber shop with a clean-shaven face and a newfound appreciation for the power of Plantol Soap.
