EDITORS COMMENTS
In this evocative image, Numa Pompilius, the legendary second king of ancient Rome, is depicted in regal attire, seated against a backdrop of lush greenery and serene waters. The scene, inspired by Roman mythology, transports us back in time to the early days of Rome's storied history. Numa Pompilius, whose reign is traditionally dated from 715 to 673 BC, is considered one of Rome's most enlightened and pious rulers. According to legend, he was guided by the goddess Egeria, who taught him the arts of divination and the worship of the gods. His reign was marked by peace, prosperity, and the establishment of many religious institutions. This image captures the essence of Numa Pompilius's reign, with the king shown in deep contemplation, surrounded by the natural beauty of the Roman countryside. The serene waters reflect the tranquility of his rule, while the verdant foliage symbolizes the fertility and abundance that thrived during his reign. The king's attire, with its flowing toga and laurel wreath, is a testament to the grandeur and majesty of the Roman monarchy. His regal bearing and thoughtful expression convey a sense of wisdom and leadership, making this an iconic representation of one of Rome's most revered historical figures. This print, with its rich historical significance and evocative imagery, is a must-have for any collection dedicated to ancient Rome, Roman mythology, or the study of early European history. It offers a glimpse into the past, transporting us to a time when myth and history intertwined to shape the foundation of one of the world's greatest civilizations.
