VISUAL DESCRIPTION
The image is a vintage advertisement for Standard Aircraft Radio by Standard Telephones and Cables Limited. It features an illustration of a hot air balloon with the words "Standard Aircraft Radio" prominently displayed on its envelope. The balloon is depicted in mid-flight against a plain background, emphasizing the equipment's association with aviation. Below the balloon, there's text that begins with "To meet the constantly changing needs of aviation communications, " suggesting that their products are designed to adapt to the evolving requirements of aircraft communication technology. The ad lists various British aircraft models such as 'AMBASSADOR, ' 'ARGONAUT, ' and 'BRABAZON' among others, indicating these prominent aircraft rely on Standard Radio equipment. On the right side, there is additional text detailing complete navigational equipment for aircraft offered by Standard Telephones and Cables Limited, including VHF 10 CHANNEL TRANSMITTER/RECEIVER SETS (STR 18), HF 20 CHANNEL TRANSMITTER/RECEIVER SETS (STR 19), FREQUENCY MODULATED ALTIMETER RECEIVER (SRB 15), and INSTRUMENT LANDING SYSTEM RECEIVERS. At the bottom of the ad is the company name "Standard Telephones and Cables Limited" along with their address at Oakleigh Road South, New Southgate, London N11. This advertisement likely dates back to mid-20th century when radio was critical for navigation and communication in aviation.
