VISUAL DESCRIPTION
This is an advertisement for Chance Brothers and Co. Limited, highlighting their expertise in the design and construction of aerodrome and airway lighting equipment. The image features a black-and-white photograph labeled as an "Untouched night photograph of the new 'Chance' Aerodrome Boundary Light, " which appears to be a bright light source casting illumination against a dark background, with the shape of the beam resembling an inverted teardrop or cone. Below the photograph, text elaborates on Chance Brothers' sixteen years of experience in this field and mentions that their apparatus can be seen at various locations around the world including Heston, Southampton, Gatwick, Doncaster, Hanworth in England; as well as international sites such as India, Canada, Australia, South Africa, Straits Settlements (historical reference), Iraq, Egypt Palestine Belgium among others. The bottom part of the image contains contact information for Lighthouse Works located in Smethwick Birmingham along with telephone number West Bromwich 1396 and telegrams address: Chance Lighthouses Smetwick. This suggests that during this time period when physical mail and telegrams were common forms of communication these details were crucial for business inquiries. Overall it's clear that this advertisement aims to promote Chance Brothers' global presence and reliability in providing high-quality lighting solutions for aviation infrastructure during what seems like early to mid-20th century given by historical references such as Straits Settlements which was dissolved in 1946.
