EDITORS COMMENTS
This evocative photograph captures the corner view of the historic Fish & Ring Public House, located in the vibrant and diverse neighborhood of Stepney, London. Established in the early 19th century, this pub has been a cherished local institution for generations, serving as a gathering place for the community. The name "Fish & Ring" is believed to have originated from the area's historical connection to the fishing industry and the use of a "ring" as a measurement for fish. The Fish & Ring's distinctive red brick facade and ornate signage, adorned with the image of a fish and a ring, add character to the bustling streets of Stepney. The pub's windows, with their worn frames and faded glass, bear witness to the passage of time and the countless stories that have unfolded within. The Fish & Ring was once a popular watering hole for locals, offering a warm and welcoming atmosphere where friends could meet, stories could be shared, and a pint of ale could be enjoyed. The pub was owned and operated by Hoare & Company Limited, a well-known name in the London pub scene. As of July 2018, the Fish & Ring has been repurposed for residential use, marking the end of an era for this beloved local institution. The building now stands as a reminder of the rich history and traditions that have shaped the character of Stepney and its community.
