Framed Print of Image of movable stage for capturing scenes with a Mutograph
Herman Casler (1867 - 1939) developed the Mutoscope/Mutograph circa 1890s, as a potential answer to the development of motion picture. The Mutoscope worked using a collection of photographic cards which would be flipped through a sequence quickly, giving the illusion of movement. This photograph shows a movable open aired stage with a selection of working actors. The camera (Mutoscope) would also be mounted on wheels beside the stage so that it could be tracked back and fourth to capture the performance. Date: circa 1890s.
