EDITORS COMMENTS
Step right up and experience a unique blend of history and whimsy with this fascinating merry-go-round made entirely from repurposed Lewis Gun magazines. This intricately crafted fairground attraction is a prime example of Trench Art, a creative response to the surplus of military materials during World War I. The Lewis Gun, a prominent weapon used by the British and American forces during WWI, is the source of the colorful and textured discs that adorn this merry-go-round. Each disc, once holding live ammunition, has been transformed into a vibrant and decorative element, adding character to the ride. The merry-go-round's design is reminiscent of traditional carousel horses, with their graceful curves and intricate details. However, the Lewis Gun magazines add an unexpected twist, making this ride a standout among the usual carousel offerings. The creation of this merry-go-round is a testament to the ingenuity and resourcefulness of those who lived through the First World War. Trench Art, as a whole, reflects the human spirit's ability to find beauty and joy in the midst of adversity. This photograph captures the essence of this historical art form, offering a glimpse into the past and the creativity that emerged from it. The merry-go-round's bright colors and intricate details invite us to imagine the stories behind each disc, adding to the rich history of military art and the First World War.
