EDITORS COMMENTS
This poignant print captures a poignant moment in American history, featuring a bust-length portrait of Abraham Lincoln alongside a letter believed to have been penned by the 16th President himself. The letter, addressed to Mrs. Lydia Bixby, was written in the aftermath of the devastating Civil War, which claimed the lives of her five sons. The heartfelt message of condolence and support was discovered in the National Archives in 1942, more than 50 years after the war's end. The image, dated 1891, is a powerful reminder of the human cost of war and the compassionate leadership of one of America's greatest presidents. Lincoln's words, written in his distinctive handwriting, express his deep sympathy for Mrs. Bixby's loss and his recognition of the sacrifices made by countless families during the conflict. The letter's authenticity has been confirmed by historians, making this print a valuable and moving testament to the enduring legacy of Abraham Lincoln and the indelible mark he left on the nation's history.
