Tableau Les Princesses de Legende" at the Folies Bergère in Paris, 1928: A Night of Jazz, Music, and Magic in the Roaring Twenties This photograph captures the essence of a night at the legendary Folies Bergère cabaret in Paris during the Roaring Twenties. The image, titled "Tableau Les Princesses de Legende," features a group of young and elegant women, dressed in the most fashionable and extravagant costumes designed by the renowned artist Erté. The atmosphere is electric, filled with the sounds of jazz music and the excitement of the crowd. The women, with their twinkling eyes and radiant smiles, seem to embody the spirit of the era - one of freedom, glamour, and fun. Erté, whose real name was Romain de Tirtoff, was a Russian-born artist who became a leading figure in the Art Deco movement. The costumes in this photograph are a testament to his talent and creativity, with their bold lines, intricate patterns, and dazzling colors. The women in the photograph are the "Princesses de Legende," a group of dancers who performed in the tableau, or scene, that bore their name. Their costumes, inspired by mythology and fairy tales, were designed to enchant and delight the audience. With their graceful movements and mesmerizing outfits, they added to the magic of a night at the Folies Bergère. This photograph is a glimpse into a bygone era, a time when the cabaret was the place to be seen and the roaring twenties were in full swing. It captures the spirit of a night out on the town, filled with jazz music, laughter, and the thrill of the unexpected.
