EDITORS COMMENTS
This photograph offers a glimpse into the Imperial Mint at Osaka during the 1910s, showcasing the intricate process of coin manufacturing. The image focuses on the rolling mills and cutting presses, essential machinery that transformed raw metal into finished coins. The rolling mills, located at the forefront of the scene, are a testament to the precision and power of Japanese industrial innovation. The large, cylindrical rolling mills are connected by a series of belts, which transfer power from the flywheels to the mills. Workers expertly operate the mills, rolling the metal sheets into thin, uniform blanks, ready for further processing. In the background, the cutting presses stand tall and imposing, their massive flywheels spinning steadily. These presses are responsible for cutting the intricate designs and inscriptions into the coin blanks, transforming them into finished coins. The workers, dressed in traditional Japanese clothing, carefully load the blanks into the presses and adjust the dies to ensure the perfect design is transferred onto each coin. This photograph provides a fascinating window into Japan's rich history of manufacturing and commerce, specifically in the realm of finance and currency production. The Imperial Mint at Osaka was a symbol of Japan's industrial prowess during this period, and this image offers a unique perspective on the intricate process of coin manufacturing. The combination of traditional Japanese clothing, advanced machinery, and the meticulous attention to detail from the workers, make this photograph a captivating piece of history.
