The intricate design, published in Paris as part of the collection "Plants and Their Application to Ornament," is a testament to the artist's mastery of the art nouveau style. Grasset's design features a vibrant iris bloom at its center, its petals delicately unfurling in a riot of color. The flower is surrounded by a mesmerizing pattern of interconnected iris forms, each one meticulously rendered in pochoir (stencil) handcoloring. The result is a breathtaking composition that seamlessly blends the organic beauty of nature with the geometric precision of art and design. The print's title suggests that Grasset intended for his design to be used as a source of inspiration for textile and tile patterns.
