The book was a continuation of the series on the costumes of the 12th to 15th centuries published by Camille Bonnard and Paul Mercuri from 1830. Georges Duplessis (1834-1899) was curator of the Prints department at the Bibliotheque nationale. Edmond Lechevallier-Chevignard (1825-1902) was an artist, book illustrator, and interior designer for many public buildings and churches. He was named professor at the National School of Decorative Arts in 1874

Biodegradable and made with non-chlorinated gases (no toxic fumes) it is efficient; producing 100 tons of polystyrene can save 300 tons of trees! Prints are glazed with lightweight, shatterproof, optical clarity acrylic (providing the same general protection from the environment as glass). The back is stapled hardboard with a sawtooth hanger attached. This stunning handcolored print depicts French cavalrymen during the reign of King Louis XIII in the 17th century, as captured in Sebastien Bourdon's painting. The image was meticulously reproduced through lithography by A. Didier, L. Flameng, and F. Laguillermie, and handcolored by E. Lechevallier-Chevignard. The print is a part of the "Historical costumes of the 16th, 17th and 18th centuries" series published in Paris in 1867 by Georges Duplessis. Duplessis was a curator of the Prints department at the Bibliotheque nationale, while Lechevallier-Chevignard was an artist, book illustrator, and interior designer. He was also named professor at the National School of Decorative Arts in 1874. This series was a continuation of the earlier work on the costumes of the 12th to 15th centuries published by Camille Bonnard and Paul Mercuri from 1830.
