This evocative image captures the spirit of Edwin John James, an English lawyer who left behind his professional career to join the ranks of Giuseppe Garibaldi's volunteer army in Italy during the Risorgimento period, between 1812 and 1882. Garibaldi, a legendary Italian patriot and military leader, was instrumental in the unification of Italy. Edwin John James, born in England, was not deterred by borders or political divisions.
