EDITORS COMMENTS
This historical print showcases a map of Brazil during a pivotal moment in its past, with the portrait of President Venceslau Bras embedded at its heart. The year is 1918, and Brazil stands as a significant player on the world stage as it actively participates in the First World War against Germany. Brazil's declaration of war on Germany on October 28, 1917, marked a turning point in the South American nation's history. The decision to join the Allied forces was driven by a combination of political and economic motivations. Brazilian leaders saw an opportunity to assert their country's growing international influence and to protect their economic interests, particularly in the face of German expansionism in South America. President Bras, born on March 24, 1853, was a prominent figure in Brazilian politics who served as the President of the Republic from November 15, 1914, to November 15, 1918. His tenure was marked by a focus on modernizing the country's infrastructure and strengthening its international relations. The map and portrait in this print serve as a poignant reminder of Bras' leadership during this crucial period in Brazil's history. The intricate details of the map reveal the vast expanse of Brazil's territories, stretching from the Amazon rainforest to the Atlantic Ocean. The inclusion of the portrait of Bras adds a personal touch to the image, emphasizing the human element behind the historical events depicted. This print offers a unique glimpse into Brazil's past, highlighting the country's role in World War One and the leadership of President Venceslau Bras. It is a must-have for history enthusiasts, educators, and anyone interested in exploring the rich tapestry of Brazil's past.
