Blackburn YA.1 Firecrest RT651 at the 1947 SBAC Radlett air-show, parked next to the first prototype Boulton Paul Balliol VL892. Designed to fulfil Specification S.28-43 the Blackburn B-48 Firecrest, (given the SBAC designation YA.1), was a single-seat carrier-borne strike aircraft, developed from the Blackburn Firebrand. Two prototypes were built, but no production was carried out as the piston-engined Firecrest was soon out-classed by potential turboprop powered aircraft like the Westland Wyvern. Date: 1947. Biodegradable and made with non-chlorinated gases (no toxic fumes) it is efficient; producing 100 tons of polystyrene can save 300 tons of trees! Prints are glazed with lightweight, shatterproof, optical clarity acrylic (providing the same general protection from the environment as glass). The back is stapled hardboard with a sawtooth hanger attached. Note: measurements provided are estimated outer dimensions, which include both the image and the frame.
