EDITORS COMMENTS
This print showcases the majestic Gyr Falcon in its dark variety, captured by the talented Canadian photographer William Notman. Born in Scotland but making his mark in Montreal, Quebec, Notman's expertise is evident in this stunning albumen silver print from 1876. The image transports us to a moment frozen in time, where we witness the sheer power and grace of this magnificent bird. The Gyr Falcon stands tall and proud against a backdrop that hints at its natural habitat. Its piercing eyes seem to penetrate our souls as it gazes into the distance with an air of regality. Notman's attention to detail is remarkable; every feather on the falcon's body appears meticulously defined, while the play of light and shadow adds depth and dimension to the composition. This photograph truly captures both the physical beauty and untamed spirit of this incredible creature. As we admire this artwork from Liszt Collection, we are reminded of nature's wonders and how photography can transport us closer to them. It serves as a reminder that even though taken over a century ago, art has no expiration date when it comes to evoking emotions or appreciating Mother Nature's creations.
