A haunting yet mesmerizing scene unfolds in this 17th-century print. At the top, a numerical sequence hints at an otherworldly message: Page 47. The year is not specified but it's said to be from Amsterdam, 1684. Below, King Belshazzar's banquet takes center stage. His guests are oblivious to the terror unfolding before them as a disembodied hand appears on the wall. With jerky movements, it scrawls out a cryptic warning: MENE, MENE, TEKEL and PARSIN (or UPHARSIN). The king himself looks frozen in fear as he gazes upon the ominous words that seem to hold his fate within their secrets. This etching by Jan Luyken measures 175 mm high and 279 mm wide – its dimensions dwarfed only by the sense of foreboding emanating from its surface. Crafted with precision on paper in 1684, this piece stands as testament to Luyken's skillful use of line work and composition.

Wood effect frame, card mounted, 10x8 fade resistant photo print. Overall outside dimensions 14x12 inches (36x31cm). Environmentally and ozone friendly, 40mm wide x 15mm Polycore® moulding has the look of real wood, is durable and light and easy to hang. Biodegradable and made with non-chlorinated gases (no toxic fumes) it is efficient; producing 100 tons of polystyrene can save 300 tons of trees! Prints are glazed with lightweight, shatterproof, optical clarity acrylic (providing the same general protection from the environment as glass). The back is stapled hardboard with a sawtooth hanger attached. Note: measurements provided are estimated outer dimensions, which include both the image and the frame.
