Framed Print of Walther Rathenau, portrait by Edward Munch

Walther Rathenau, portrait by Edward Munch, 1907 Walther Rathenau (29 September 1867, Berlin - 24 June 1922, Berlin) was a German politician of the DDP party, writer and important industrialist of Jewish descent. A quote from Walther Rathenau describes very well the anti-Semitic mood and reality that was also omnipresent in the German Empire and influenced the lives of Jewish fellow citizens: In the youthful years of every German Jew there is a painful moment that he remembers for the rest of his life: when he realises for the first time that he has entered the world as a second-class citizen and that no amount of ability or merit can free him from this position. Yet despite all his disadvantages, Walther Rathenau was a very successful man. Business was the area in which he had the greatest possible opportunities for development. He developed pioneering electrochemical processes and was the founder of the Central German chemical region. Explore the World Through imageBROKER Prints. © imageBROKER/Heinz Krimmer
