Framed Print of The world's largest city. In 1944

The world's largest city. In 1944, Kiruna in Sweden is planned to be reorganized from a rural municipality to a city. Plans that at this time are a few years ahead in time, but which according to Kiruna's municipal board chairman Hjalmar Nystroem are firm. Kiruna is planned to become the world's largest city with an area of 14, 000 square kilometers. An area that is 18 times as large as New York's and eight times as large as London's. The two world metropolises, which at the time had approximately ten million inhabitants each. Kiruna has around 18, 500. The entire north-western Lapland mountain world will lie within the city limits, which in the north and west coincide with the national border and, among other things, reach up to Treriksroeset. The work behind the plan is the work of the well-known Kiruna lawyer Vilhelm Carlsson. One of the reasons for the creation of the giant city is the current tax liability of the mining company LKAB, which only contributes a tenth of its taxed income within the parish. It would take until 1 January 1948 before the decision won legal force and Kiruna became a city. Picture taken in Meschplan and buildings that are noew being torn down due to the move of the town.
