Framed Print of Portrait of Nikola Tesla, ca
Portrait of Nikola Tesla, ca. 1896 Nikola Tesla (10 July 1856 in Smiljan - 7 January 1943 in New York City) was one of the great inventors of the 19th and 20th centuries. His inventions in the field of electrical engineering in particular were and still are of great importance today. The two-phase alternating current system he developed still determines the way we transmit electrical energy today. In the so-called electricity war of 1890, George Westinghouse, who favoured Tesla's system, prevailed over Thomas Edison's system. Since then, Tesla's technology has determined the development of power grids in the USA and later worldwide. On 20 March 1900, Tesla received his first patent for wireless energy transmission, which is now regarded as the first patent for radio technology. In his honour, the Nikola Tesla Museum is now located in Belgrade, where many of his inventions can be seen. His urn with his ashes is also kept here. Various companies have borne his name. The best known at present is Te. Explore the World Through imageBROKER Prints. © imageBROKER/Heinz Krimmer
