Framed Print of A diver in 1953, sitting in his diving suit and drinking coffee

A diver in 1953, sitting in his diving suit and drinking coffee. The diver wears a classic heavy diving suit, typical of the 1950s, with a robust helmet and hoses that supply him with air from the surface - a method known as surface-supplied diving, he relies on a compressor or pump on the boat above, which was standard before modern scuba systems became common. Working as a heavy diver is a physically demanding profession, they work underwater during construction work, with bridge and harbour construction. The diving helmet at his feet - the heavy, copper-coloured helmet with its glass visor and hoses is both a tool and a reminder of his professional identity. The suit, probably made of canvas, is bulky and durable. Kristoffersson ref 1-40
