Highgate's original overground station was constructed by the Edgware, Highgate and London Railway. Immediately before it opened in 1867 the line was purchased by the Great Northern Railway (GNR), It was built in a deep cutting with twin tunnels to the north and south of the new station. In the late 1930's London Transport planned to electrify this line, from Finsbury Park to Alexandra Park, and incorporate it into the Tube network. It was intended that Highgate would be the interchange station between the old GNR line and the new Northern Line extension line from Archway to High Barnet. The demands of the Second World War led to the abandonment of the electrification of the GNR line and it was closed in the 1960's. A centre for social interaction and life-long learning in the heart of Highgate.

Wood effect frame, card mounted, 10x8 fade resistant photo print. Overall outside dimensions 14x12 inches (36x31cm). Environmentally and ozone friendly, 40mm wide x 15mm Polycore® moulding has the look of real wood, is durable and light and easy to hang. Biodegradable and made with non-chlorinated gases (no toxic fumes) it is efficient; producing 100 tons of polystyrene can save 300 tons of trees! Prints are glazed with lightweight, shatterproof, optical clarity acrylic (providing the same general protection from the environment as glass). The back is stapled hardboard with a sawtooth hanger attached. Note: measurements provided are estimated outer dimensions, which include both the image and the frame.
