PORTISHEAD DOCK, PORTISHEAD AND NORTH WESTON, NORTH SOMERSET. A group portrait of three gangers employed on the Portishead Dock project
A cropped version of this image was published in the People section of the May 1959 edition of Laings monthly newsletter, Team Spirit.
In 1958, remedial work began on the lock entrance to Portishead Dock for the Port of Bristol Authority. The lock entrance had been damaged by scour and wave action and needed to be removed and renewed, and the existing walls underpinned. At the same time, work was underway on the final third of Portishead B Power Station. Discover Historic England images to buy as prints, wall art or for licensing.
