EDITORS COMMENTS
This watercolour print showcases the picturesque Lacock Village Cross, located in the charming village of Lacock, Wiltshire. The artwork, possibly created by the talented William Alexander who lived during the late 18th and early 19th centuries, offers a glimpse into this medieval gem. Standing tall against a backdrop of quaint cottages and lush greenery, the Village Cross is an enchanting sight to behold. The artist's attention to detail is evident in every brushstroke; from the intricate carvings on the cross itself to the delicate play of light and shadow on its weathered surface. As we gaze upon this scene from a north-western perspective, our eyes are drawn towards another historical landmark - The Red Lion Inn. Its thatched roof and timber-framed structure add character to an already idyllic setting. This artwork holds immense historical value as it was collected by C G Harper for preservation at Historic England Archive. Through this print, we can appreciate not only the artistic talent behind its creation but also gain insight into Lacock's rich heritage. It serves as a window into a time long gone yet still cherished today. Whether you have visited Lacock or simply admire medieval architecture and artistry, this exquisite illustration transports you back in time with its timeless beauty and evocative charm.
