The libretto by Lorenzo Da Ponte (1749-1838) was based on Moliere's play of 1665 Don Juan, ou le festin de Pierre (Don Juan, or the Stone Banquet). This image is a scene from Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart's opera "Don Giovanni," first performed in Prague in 1787. The opera, with a libretto by Lorenzo Da Ponte, is based on Moliere's play "Don Juan, or the Stone Banquet" from 1665. In this depiction, the infamous Don Giovanni is seen attempting to seduce Zerlina, a country girl, as he sings the seductive serenade "Give me thy hand, oh fairest (La ci darem la mano)."
