EDITORS COMMENTS
This print captures the iconic Raymond Mays Hillman Speed Model 1496 cc Quicksilver in action at the Inter-Varsity Hillclimb in Tring, England. The vintage car, with its sleek design and classic charm, stands out as a symbol of British motoring history. Driven by the legendary racing driver Raymond Mays himself, this powerful machine was known for its speed and agility on the road. With MD 3877 proudly displayed as its registration number, it exudes an air of prestige and excellence. The photograph transports us back to the 1920s, a time when motor racing was gaining popularity as a thrilling sport. As we gaze upon this monochrome image captured by Bill Brunell (WJ), we can almost feel the excitement that filled the air during those early days of motorsport. The location itself adds to the allure of this snapshot – an avenue lined with trees creates a picturesque backdrop for this momentous event. It is here that Mays achieved his fastest time of the day (F. T. D. ), earning him well-deserved recognition among his peers. Preserved within this print is not just a historic automobile but also a piece of cultural heritage. It serves as a reminder of Britain's rich automotive legacy and pays homage to those who pushed boundaries in pursuit of speed and innovation.
