The Duke of Devonshire, 1862. The recent election of the Duke of Devonshire to the office of Chancellor of the University of Cambridge, vacant by the decease of the Prince Consort, has caused us to engrave a Portrait of his Grace...from a photograph by Maull and Polyblank. William Cavendish, seventh Duke of Devonshire, Marquis of Hartington, Earl of Devonshire, Earl of Burlington, Baron Cavendish, and Baron Clifford, K.G. F.R.S. D.C.L. is the eldest son of the late Hon. William Cavendish...The position held by his Grace as a member of the University of Cambridge, and his having occupied an office akin to that to which he has just been appointed, give a certain fitness to the selection which has been made by the authorities of the University, and probably tended to bis election being unopposed. His Grace was also M.P. for the University of Cambridge in 1829 and 1830, previous to his accession to the peerage...In 1832 he was elected for North Derbyshire, which division of the county he represented until 1834, when he succeeded to the earldom of Burlington. Wood effect frame, card mounted, 10x8 fade resistant photo print. Overall outside dimensions 14x12 inches (36x31cm). Environmentally and ozone friendly, 40mm wide x 15mm Polycore® moulding has the look of real wood, is durable and light and easy to hang. Biodegradable and made with non-chlorinated gases (no toxic fumes) it is efficient; producing 100 tons of polystyrene can save 300 tons of trees! Prints are glazed with lightweight, shatterproof, optical clarity acrylic (providing the same general protection from the environment as glass). The back is stapled hardboard with a sawtooth hanger attached. Note: measurements provided are estimated outer dimensions, which include both the image and the frame. While we aim to keep sizing consistent, exact dimensions may vary slightly due to differences in print size or production requirements, which may result in a variation in the overall size (up to approximately 2.5cm (1"))
