Music Saloon recently erected at Scarborough, 1858. Creator: Unknown

Music Saloon recently erected at Scarborough, 1858. The Scarborough Cliff Bridge Company have provided an additional attraction to the visitors of that beautiful watering-place by the erection of a handsome music saloon, which has just been completed from the designs of Sir Joseph Paxton and Mr. G. H. Stokes...The company...have also formed an extensive promenade or river esplanade, nearly a quarter of a mile in length, thus giving to the visitors and subscribers to the Spa an opportunity of inhaling the breezes of the German Ocean at the same time that they are listening to the strains of harmony proceeding from the interior of the saloon...Over the colonnade, which is raised so as to form a terrace...is a promenade extending round the south end and the side of the building facing the sea. This promenade is...supported on cast-iron columns with ornamental brackets...The external walls are built of Whitby stone...and inclose an area that, with the galleries, will accommodate 2000 persons...The orchestra...is capable of holding fifty performers; and underneath it are retiring-rooms for the conductor and musicians'. EDITORS COMMENTS
This photograph captures the newly constructed Music Saloon at Scarborough, England, in 1858. The Music Saloon, a magnificent addition to this popular coastal resort, was brought to life by the combined efforts of Sir Joseph Paxton and Mr. G. H. Stokes. The structure, designed to enhance the enjoyment of visitors, boasts an impressive exterior and interior, reflecting the elegance and sophistication of the era. The Music Saloon, situated along the coastline, offers visitors an unparalleled experience. With the Scarborough Cliff Bridge Company's recent development of an extensive promenade or river esplanade, nearly a quarter of a mile in length, visitors can now enjoy the invigorating sea breeze while listening to the harmonious melodies emanating from the Music Saloon. The Music Saloon's colonnade, raised to form a terrace, is adorned with a promenade that extends around the south end and the sea-facing side of the building. This promenade, supported by cast-iron columns with ornamental brackets, provides ample space for over 2000 people to gather and appreciate the stunning views and musical performances. The Music Saloon's exterior walls are built of Whitby stone, giving the structure a timeless and elegant appearance. The interior houses an orchestra capable of accommodating fifty performers, while the conductor and musicians have access to retiring rooms beneath the stage.
