EDITORS COMMENTS
This print captures a significant moment in history - the marriage certificate of the Duke and Duchess of Kent in 1934. Prince George, Duke of Kent, son of King George V, tied the knot with Princess Marina of Greece and Denmark on 29 November that year. The document showcases their royal signatures, symbolizing their union. Tragically, this joyous occasion was overshadowed by later events. Prince George lost his life in a plane crash at Eagles Rock near Dunbeath, Caithness, Scotland on 25 August 1942 while serving during World War II. This somber fact adds depth to the image as we reflect upon the fleeting nature of happiness. The illustration is taken from "George V and Edward VIII: A Royal Souvenir" by FGH Salusbury - a souvenir book published following King George V's passing and Edward VIII's ascension to the throne. It serves as a poignant reminder not only of love but also of loss within Britain's royal family during this tumultuous period. As we gaze upon this monochrome photograph, we are transported back to the thirties - an era characterized by elegance and grace. The print collector has preserved this piece for future generations to appreciate its historical significance and pay homage to those who shaped our past.
