EDITORS COMMENTS
This print showcases the iconic painting "Kullervo Rides to War, 1901" by Akseli Gallen-Kallela. Housed in the esteemed Suomen kansallismuseo in Helsinki, Finland, this masterpiece is a testament to Finnish mythology and symbolism. The artist skillfully depicts Kullervo, a tragic hero from the epic Kalevala, riding into battle on his trusty steed. With bold brushstrokes and vibrant colors, Gallen-Kallela brings this mythological character to life on canvas. The use of oil paints adds depth and texture to the artwork, enhancing its overall impact. Through this allegorical piece of fine art, Gallen-Kallela explores themes of bravery and sacrifice found within Finnish folklore. The painting serves as a visual representation of Jean Sibelius' musical composition inspired by Kullervo's story.
