EDITORS COMMENTS
This photograph showcases a kitchen designed by the talented R. W. Symonds in 1938. Located in the London residence of Mr. J. Hanson Lawson, this interior space underwent a complete transformation under Symonds' expert guidance. The attention to detail is evident as we observe the sleek table with its Savestane steel top, exuding both style and durability. The focal point of this kitchen is undoubtedly the cooker, proudly manufactured by Moffatts Ltd from Blackburn, Lancs. Its presence adds a touch of modernity to the overall design while promising exceptional cooking capabilities for its fortunate owner. Every element within this domestic haven has been carefully chosen to create an atmosphere that seamlessly blends functionality with aesthetic appeal. From the furniture selection to the metal accents throughout, every aspect contributes to an ambiance that exudes timeless elegance. As we delve into this snapshot from Decorative Art 1938 - The Studio Year Book, it becomes clear that R. W. Symonds was not only a masterful designer but also an architect who possessed an innate understanding of how spaces can be transformed into havens of comfort and beauty. This monochrome print captures a moment frozen in time—a glimpse into domestic life during the thirties when symmetrical lines and clean designs were at their peak popularity.
