Framed Print of Cinderella, 1925. Creator: Howard Davie

Cinderella, 1925. Illustration of a wax tableau at Madame Tussauds, a wax museum founded in London in 1835 by the French sculptor Marie Tussaud. Here sits the little maid before the kitchen fire, a real fire with real flames. Of what is the girl dreaming? This can be seen, for over the fire is the brilliant picture, lit up by the flames, of a magnificent coach and horses and a number of attendants going to the ball at the Palace; so Cinderella sighs, thinking of her stepmother and stepsisters, who have gone to enjoy themselves, leaving her behind. But look up, look up! See who has come through the window. Who else but the Fairy Godmother, to transform Cinderella into a beautifully dressed maiden, as beautifully dressed as any Princess, and to provide her with a coach and horses and a retinue of servants'. From Madame Tussaud's: The Palace of Enchantment described by Capt. Edric Vredenburg, illustrated by Howard Davie, [Raphael Tuck and Sons Ltd, London, 1925].
