EDITORS COMMENTS
This print showcases the talented actor Kirishima Gizaemon in his role as Murasaki Daijin, taken during a performance of the play "Hatsu Akinai Omise Soga" at the Nakamura Theater in January 1767. Created by renowned artist Torii Kiyomitsu, this exquisite piece captures the essence of 18th-century Japanese theater and fashion. Gizaemon's attire is a stunning display of traditional Japanese clothing from the Edo period. His vibrant kimono, adorned with intricate calligraphy and bold colors, reflects the artistry and attention to detail that defined this era. The maroon hues beautifully complement his green boots and carriage boot accessories, adding depth to his character portrayal.
