EDITORS COMMENTS
This print titled "NATIVITY WITH SHEPHERDS" showcases a Flemish breviary illumination from around the year 1500. The image transports us back to medieval times, offering a glimpse into the religious art of that era. At its heart, this artwork depicts the biblical scene of Jesus' birth in Bethlehem. In this intricate composition, we see the Holy Family at the center: Mary, Joseph, and their newborn son Jesus. They are surrounded by shepherds who have come to pay homage to the divine child. The artist's attention to detail is evident in every brushstroke, capturing not only the adoration on each character's face but also conveying a sense of awe and reverence. The use of vibrant colors and delicate lines reflects both Flemish artistic traditions and Renaissance influences prevalent during this period.
