Zacatecas buildings

The state name derives from the name of its capital, Zacatecas. This word is derived from Nahuatl and means -where there is abundant zacate (grass), Zacatecas is located in North-Central Mexico, The state is best known for its rich deposits of silver and other minerals, its colonial architecture and its importance during the Mexican revolution. Its main economic activities are mining, agriculture and tourism.
The city had its start as a Spanish mining camp in the mid 16th century. Native Americans had already known about the areas rich deposits of silver and other minerals. Due to the wealth that the mines provided, Zacatecas quickly became one of the most important cities in New Spain, with much of its silver enriching the Spanish crown. The area saw battles during the turbulent 19th century, but the next major event was the Battle of Zacatecas during the Mexican Revolution when Francisco Villa captured the town, an event still celebrated every anniversary. Today, the colonial part of the city is a World Heritage Site, due to the Baroque and other structures built during its mining days. Mining still remains an important industry

EDITORS COMMENTS
This print showcases the stunning architecture of Zacatecas, a city located in North-Central Mexico. The name "Zacatecas" derives from Nahuatl, meaning "where there is abundant zacate (grass)" reflecting the region's natural beauty. Renowned for its rich deposits of silver and other minerals, as well as its colonial charm, Zacatecas holds great historical significance. Originally established as a Spanish mining camp in the 16th century, Zacatecas quickly flourished due to its valuable resources. The mines brought immense wealth to the city and enriched the Spanish crown. Throughout the turbulent 19th century, battles were fought on this land, but one event that stands out is the Battle of Zacatecas during the Mexican Revolution when Francisco Villa captured the town. To this day, this victory is celebrated annually. The colonial part of Zacatecas has been designated as a World Heritage Site due to its remarkable Baroque structures and other architectural gems constructed during its mining heyday. Today, alongside mining activities that continue to drive economic growth in the region, agriculture and tourism are also major industries. This exquisite print captures not only the grandeur of Zacatecas' buildings but also reflects upon its rich history and cultural heritage. It serves as a reminder of how this once humble mining camp transformed into an important city that played a significant role in shaping Mexico's past and present.
